THE IMMORTAL MEN CENTER

THE IMMORTAL MEN PROJECT

The Immortal Men Project is a three-and-a-half-month project that: creates, executes, monitors, and documents the physical, mental and social health activities of Justice-Involved Black young adult men in St. Louis, Missouri.

The name Immortal Men was selected because many adult men, especially young men who have been involved with the Justice system, believe they are invincible, which makes them less likely to take care of their physical, mental and social health. Their reasons vary from: “I’m good and healthy”, “Don’t nobody care about me anyway”, “I don’t trust those doctors or healthcare system”.  From personal experience, deterioration of health has a dominoes affect upon the individual, his employment, lifestyle, family, friends and community.

The Immortal Men Project will monitor and document the progress of participants to see if: (1) they are following the project schedule, programs and regiment, including meeting the goals and objectives of the project (2) any of their awareness, self-care habits or perceptions regarding health and healthcare changed during the project period (3) whether they would continue to maintain better physical, mental and social health beyond the end of the project (4) they are regularly utilizing the many resources they are available to them.

The Immortal Men Center will cultivate new partnerships with external institutions that can provide additional resources for the participants. These partnering institutions includes educational, justice-involved, civic, business and healthcare.
